On the Road to Rome

Friday evening proved rather relaxed as many of us got together and had a movie night. With technology being so extraordinarily convenient, we simply connected my iPod to the common room’s TV and watched one of my movies.

Yesterday a couple of us resumed site seeing by going on a tour of the Cotswolds and Blenheim Palace. With tall ornate gates reminiscent of Buckingham Palace, Blenheim Palace showed itself impressive and grand. While being the current residence of the 11th Duke of Marlborough, the palace also boasts as being the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill.

We followed this up by seeing different parts of the Cotswolds. With parts of it preserved by a private organization that acts similar to a historical preservation, the Cotswolds serves as a picture into England’s past. Old churches, both Anglican and formerly Catholic, dot the countryside. Roads built by the Romans still run along the hills reminding us of Britain’s extensive past. It is interesting to ponder how events that took place here in this land so long ago directly impacted the development of our nation a sea away.

More of Cotswold.

Coming back home exhausted and hungry, several of us made our way over to one of the nearby pubs to get dinner. Afterwards, we decided to have another movie night. It was a great way to relax after another very busy and full day.
