Getting up bright and early the next day, we made our way into the city for the first of two field trips to London. On the day’s agenda was the British Museum and the Central London Mosque. As one might expect, the Museum proved full of exquisite artifacts of history that one typically only reads about in books. The world famous Rosetta stone acted as an outstanding example of this. Later hopping on the Tube (As the subway is known in London), we railed over to the Central London Mosque. With the girls wearing their headscarves to respect the guidelines of the mosque, we soon met our guide for the tour. Proving very charismatic, our guide showed us through the mosque, as well as took time to discuss Islam with us.
Later in the evening we split into smaller groups. With our objective clear, my group made a bee line towards Parliament. For those that have yet to see my previous post, we achieved overwhelming success by seeing both the House of Commons and the House of Lords!
By the day’s end, we were ready to head back home to Oxford for a good night’s rest. Having spent a good portion of the day on the Tube, I found the recorded subway entry warning repeating through my head: “Mind the Gap.”
