Mere Oxford

Morning came bright and early at 5:30 as the sun made its appearance. It amazes me how much longer the sun fills the day this far north. Morning also brought our first day of class. It proved a very lively discussion and as a result, I am very excited for how the rest of the week will play out.

First day in class.

After class several of us went out for a stroll in the city. With curiosity as our guide, we randomly walked up and down various streets. We eventually found ourselves in The Church of the Virgin Mary. The church was beautiful inside and filled with hundreds of years of history. Taking a break, we sat in the balcony of the church. Sitting there for at least 20 minutes, we could only wonder how many photos visitors took of us in an attempt to get a picture of the ornate stained glass window behind us. While sitting in the balcony, I saw someone I thought I knew. As it turned out, we couldn't recall where we knew each other from, but we did have mutual friends back home. How wild!

In all of our wanderings, we found Logic.

The iconic Hertford Bridge.

Later on in the evening, we walked over to The Eagle and Child pub. Famous for being the gathering place of C.S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien, it has a history longer than the existence of the U.S. Constitution. Not wanting to miss out on a traditional British meal, several of us took the opportunity to eat fish and chips. Mere Oxford provides an amazing afternoon experience.
